How paragraphs are counted

A new paragraph is counted at each block of text separated by a line break. Empty lines between blocks are ignored, so the count reflects the actual paragraphs you have written.

How long should a paragraph be?

For the web, short paragraphs of 2–4 sentences are easiest to scan. In academic or print writing, paragraphs are often longer, but each should still cover a single idea.
