Local processing for private documents
Contracts, ID scans, tax forms and medical letters are exactly the files you should not upload to a random website. These tools read and write PDFs with a JavaScript PDF library running in your browser, so the file is opened from your disk and the result is saved back to it without passing through a server. On a laptop a 200-page document merges in a second or two; on a phone, large scanned files take longer because every page is held in memory.
What survives each operation
Merging and splitting copy pages exactly, so text stays selectable and images keep their quality. Compressing re-renders pages as images at a lower resolution, which is why it shrinks scans dramatically but turns selectable text into a picture — the Compress PDF page explains the three quality levels. Word to PDF renders the document's text and basic formatting; PDF to Word extracts text into paragraphs and cannot reconstruct complex layouts. Each page lists these limits before you start.
Common jobs
- Combine a CV, cover letter and certificates into a single upload for a job portal (Merge PDF).
- Send only pages 3–5 of a long contract (Split PDF).
- Turn phone photos of receipts into one PDF for an expense claim (Images to PDF).
- Get a scanned form under an email or portal size limit (Compress PDF).
- Edit the text of a PDF someone sent you (PDF to Word, edit, then Word to PDF).
Frequently asked questions
Can these tools open password-protected PDFs?
No. Encrypted PDFs cannot be read without the password, and the tools do not ask for one. Remove the protection in your PDF reader first by printing or saving a copy.
Why is my merged PDF so large?
A merged file is roughly the sum of its parts because each page carries its own fonts and images. Run the result through Compress PDF if it has to meet a size limit.
