How to paraphrase text with this tool
- Paste the passage into the “Text to paraphrase” box — a sentence, a paragraph or up to about 4,000 characters.
- Choose a style from the dropdown: Standard, Fluent, Formal, Casual or Simple.
- Press Paraphrase. The button reads “Rewriting…” while the request is in progress, usually two to five seconds.
- The rewrite appears in the read-only Result box. Read it against the original, then press Copy.
The exact instruction behind each style
The style you pick is not a post-processing filter; it is a sentence added to the request the model receives. Knowing the sentence tells you what to expect.
| Style | Sentence added to the prompt | Typical effect on the rewrite |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Keep a neutral, natural tone. | Same register, new wording and sentence order |
| Fluent | Make it flow smoothly and read more polished. | Connectors added, choppy sentences merged |
| Formal | Use a professional, formal tone. | Contractions removed, longer words, fewer idioms |
| Casual | Use a relaxed, conversational tone. | Contractions, shorter sentences, direct address |
| Simple | Use simpler words and shorter sentences so it's easy to read. | Long sentences split, jargon swapped for plain words |
Where the text goes and what the model is told
The browser sends the task name, your text and the style to the site's own API route. The server holds the system prompt — “rewrite text so it keeps exactly the same meaning but uses different words and sentence structure… return ONLY the rewritten text” — and passes the whole thing to a language model hosted by Groq. The rewrite therefore happens on a third-party service, not in your browser, and the text is processed there even though this site never saves it.
That makes the tool a poor choice for unpublished contracts, medical notes or anything under an NDA. For everyday writing, blog drafts and emails it's fine. The model is also told to reply in the language of the input, so Arabic in gives Arabic out.
Length caps and the truncation nobody warns you about
Two limits apply. The input is cut to 4,000 characters on the server; the counter under the box turns red and says so when a paste is longer, because anything after that point is never seen by the model. Roughly, 4,000 characters is 600–700 English words. The reply is capped at 800 tokens, which is about 550–600 English words, and the Fluent and Formal styles tend to run longer than the original.
Put those together and a maximum-length paste can come back missing its final sentences. A 250-word paragraph is about 1,500 characters and needs around 330 tokens in reply, which is comfortably inside both caps. Working a paragraph at a time is the reliable approach for longer documents; the AI Rewriter is built for whole articles and keeps paragraph breaks.
Checking a rewrite before you use it
- Numbers, dates and names should be identical. Scan for them first; they're the quickest things to verify.
- Watch for negations. “Not recommended” and “recommended” differ by one word, and a rewrite that reorders a sentence can lose it.
- Technical terms may be swapped for near-synonyms that aren't exact (“acute” for “severe”, “error” for “bug”). Put the precise term back.
- Quoted speech and citations should not be paraphrased at all. Take them out before pasting and put them back afterwards.
- The page doesn't highlight what changed. Paste the original and the rewrite into the Diff Checker if you want a word-by-word view.
Messages you may see and what they mean
| Message | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Please enter some text first. | The box is empty or only whitespace | Paste something and try again |
| Too many requests. Wait a minute and try again. | More than 12 AI requests from your IP in 60 seconds | Pause briefly; the window rolls over |
| We've hit the free AI limit for now. | The provider's free quota for the shared models is used up | Retry in a few minutes |
| The AI request failed. Please try again. | The model returned an error or an empty reply | Retry; the server rotates to another model |
| Network error. Please check your connection and try again. | The request never reached the site | Check your connection |
Frequently asked questions
Is this paraphrasing tool free?
Yes. You can rewrite text for free with no account. Heavy bursts are rate-limited to keep the service available for everyone.
What do the different styles do?
Standard keeps a neutral tone, Fluent makes it read more polished, Formal sounds professional, Casual is relaxed and conversational, and Simple uses easier words and shorter sentences.
Will the rewrite keep my original meaning?
Yes — the tool rephrases the wording and structure while preserving the meaning. Always give it a quick read to make sure it fits your intent.
Does it work in other languages?
Yes. It replies in the same language as your input, so you can paraphrase text in many languages, not just English.
Is there a limit on how much text I can paraphrase at once?
About 4,000 characters in and roughly 550–600 English words out. The counter under the box warns when a paste is longer than that, so split a long document into paragraphs and run them one at a time.
Why do I get a different rewrite each time?
The model runs with a moderate randomness setting (temperature 0.7), so every run is a new attempt. Re-running is a cheap way to see alternatives; copy the version you like because the Result box is replaced on the next run.
Does the tool show what it changed?
No. It returns the full rewritten text in a separate box with no highlighting. For a side-by-side comparison, paste both versions into the Diff Checker on this site.
Can I paraphrase a single sentence?
Yes. One sentence works, though the model has less context to vary the structure, so the result may stay close to the original. Including the surrounding sentence or two usually produces a more natural rewrite.
