Quick editor versus Advanced editor

The privacy promise on this page applies to the Quick editor, which never sends the image anywhere. The Advanced tab is a third-party application running inside the page; it does its editing in your browser too, but it's Photopea's code loaded from Photopea's servers, so judge it by Photopea's policies rather than this site's.

What each one-click look actually sets

A look is a full set of slider values, not an overlay. Clicking Cool after you've set Brightness to 120% puts Brightness back to 100%, so apply the look first and fine-tune the sliders afterwards. The sliders show the look's numbers, which makes it easy to build your own variant, say Vintage with Sepia dropped to 25%.

Slider ranges and the order they're applied in

Brightness, Contrast and Saturation run from 0 to 200% with 100% meaning no change. Hue runs 0–360°, Blur 0–10 pixels in 0.1 steps, and Grayscale, Sepia and Invert 0–100%. Whatever order you move them in, the canvas applies them as one fixed chain: brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, blur, grayscale, sepia, invert. So once Grayscale is at 100%, the Hue slider has nothing left to shift, and Invert always acts on the already-toned result.

Blur is measured in image pixels, not screen pixels. A 10 px blur softens a 4,000-pixel-wide phone photo gently but turns a 400-pixel avatar into a smudge. When every slider sits at its neutral value, no filter is applied at all, so an untouched image exports pixel-for-pixel.

Rotation, flips and what the download contains

Each rotate click turns the image a further 90°, and a 90° or 270° turn swaps the width and height: a 4032 × 3024 photo rotated right becomes 3024 × 4032. The flips are toggles, so pressing Flip H twice restores the original. The preview is scaled to fit about 480 pixels tall, but the canvas underneath holds the full-resolution image and is exactly what gets downloaded.

PNG export ignores the quality slider because PNG is lossless; JPG and WebP use it, from 10% to 100%, with 92% as the default. JPG can't hold transparency, so transparent areas are filled white at export time (and only then — the preview keeps them see-through). For a typical 12-megapixel photo the PNG is several times larger than the JPG, so choose PNG only for graphics, screenshots or transparency.

Limits of the Quick editor

• There is no crop, resize or straighten-by-degrees. Use the Image Resizer for dimensions and the Blur Sensitive Information tool for a blur on one region only.
• There is no undo history. Reset edits returns every slider, rotation and flip to neutral in one step; to go back one change, move that slider back yourself.
• One image at a time. New image discards the current photo and its edits, so download first.
• HEIC photos from iPhones don't open in most browsers. Convert them with the HEIC to JPG tool, then edit the JPG.
• Browsers cap canvas size, and iPhone Safari is the tightest at around 16 megapixels. A larger image may fail with “Could not open that image”; resize it first.
