How to calculate your exact age

  1. Keep ‘Age from birthday’ selected and pick your date of birth. The picker does not accept a date after today.
  2. Leave ‘Age at date’ on today, or change it to find your age on a past or future date.
  3. Read your age in years, months and days, the totals in months, weeks, days, hours and minutes, the weekday you were born on, your zodiac sign and your next birthday.
  4. Switch to ‘Difference between two dates’ to measure the gap between any two dates in the same format.

Every figure on the result card

The hours and minutes are multiples of the day count, because the tool works with dates only and does not ask for a time of birth. The 4 days in the age line are the days left over after stepping forward 36 years and 7 months from 15 March 1990, which lands on 15 October 2026.

What the next-birthday box can show

Normally it names the date and weekday of your next birthday, counts the days until it, and states the age you will turn. If the ‘Age at date’ is your birthday, it switches to a happy-birthday message with the age you turn that day, and the days-away count is 0.

For a birth date of 29 February, the next birthday in a year without a 29 February is shown as 1 March, because that is where the calendar lands when 29 February does not exist. The days-away count is measured to that 1 March. In leap years the box returns to 29 February.

Zodiac sign dates used

These are the common Western (tropical) boundaries. The sun actually changes sign at a specific hour that shifts slightly year to year, so someone born on a boundary date may see a different sign quoted elsewhere.

The difference mode

‘Difference between two dates’ takes any two dates and reports the gap as years, months and days plus total months, weeks and days. The order does not matter; the earlier date is always treated as the start. It does not show hours, minutes, a weekday or a next-birthday box.

From 1 September 2019 to 19 October 2026 the difference is 7y 1m 18d, 85 total months, 372 weeks and 2,605 days. The same mode works for how long you have been in a job, how long a warranty has run, or the time left on a lease when the second date is in the future.

If the result looks wrong

  • A red message appears when the date of birth is after the ‘Age at date’. Correct one of the two dates.
  • The ‘Age at date’ is pre-filled with today's date according to your device's clock and time zone. If the device clock is wrong, the default will be too; pick the date you mean and the result follows it.
  • The date pickers follow your browser's language, so the day and month order you see is your system's, not the site's.
  • An empty result usually means one of the dates is incomplete; the card appears as soon as both are valid.
  • Future ‘Age at’ dates are allowed, which is how you check your age on a retirement or visa date.

Frequently asked questions

How is my exact age calculated?

We compare your date of birth with today's date and break the difference down into full years, remaining months and remaining days, accounting for varying month lengths and leap years.

Does the age calculator store my date of birth?

No. All calculations run entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

Can I find out which day of the week I was born on?

Yes. The ‘Born on a’ box gives the weekday of your birth date, worked out from the calendar rather than looked up, so it is correct for any year.

What does the page show on my birthday?

The next-birthday box changes to a greeting that states the age you turn today, and the age line already shows the new number of years with 0 months and 0 days.

Why are the total hours always a multiple of 24?

Because the calculator only knows your birth date, not the time of day. It counts whole days from midnight to midnight and multiplies by 24, so the hours figure is exact to the nearest day.

Is the zodiac sign based on the time I was born?

No, only on the date. On a boundary day such as 19 or 20 February the sign can depend on the hour and year, which the tool does not take into account.
