How to generate hashtags for a post
- Type the topic or paste the caption you plan to use. A counter under the box tracks the 1,000-character allowance and warns when a paste is longer; a full caption gives better tags than a two-word topic.
- Choose the platform: Instagram, TikTok, X / Twitter, YouTube or LinkedIn.
- Click Generate hashtags. The tags appear as individual chips.
- Click Copy all to copy them as one space-separated line, then paste and delete any that do not fit.
How the raw reply is cleaned up
The model is asked for 20 relevant, popular hashtags for your platform, returned as a single space-separated line. The page then extracts every run of characters that starts with # and continues with letters in any script, digits or underscores, and removes duplicates while ignoring case, keeping the first spelling it saw.
| What the model wrote | What you see | Why |
|---|---|---|
| #CoffeeLover #coffeelover | #CoffeeLover | Case-insensitive de-duplication keeps the first one |
| #coffee-shop | #coffee | A hyphen ends a hashtag on every platform, so the parser stops there |
| #قهوة | #قهوة | Letters in any script are accepted |
| Here are your tags: #latte | #latte | Stray commentary is dropped |
Where to place tags on each platform
| Platform | What the model favours | Where the tags go |
|---|---|---|
| A spread of broad and community tags | End of the caption or the first comment | |
| TikTok | Trend and topic tags | In the caption, kept short |
| X / Twitter | One or two short topical tags | Inline in the post |
| YouTube | Topic and format tags | The description; the first three show above the title |
| Industry and role tags | Last line of the post |
A worked example
Input: 'morning coffee at a cozy café downtown', platform Instagram. A typical run returns a mix that sorts into three tiers.
| Tier | Tags of this kind | Role in the set |
|---|---|---|
| Broad | #coffee #coffeelover #cafe | Millions of posts, short-lived visibility |
| Mid-size | #coffeeshopvibes #latteart #cafehopping | Communities that browse the tag |
| Niche | #downtowncafe #morningbrew #thirdwavecoffee | Fewer posts, longer time near the top |
Keep a few from each tier and drop the rest. Adding the city name as a tag yourself ('#seattlecoffee') is usually the single biggest improvement, because the model does not know where the café is unless you say so.
Before you post the set
- Tap each tag on the platform to confirm it shows the kind of content you expect; some tags have been restricted or hidden, and the tool has no way to know.
- Drop any tag that does not describe the post. Platforms treat off-topic tags as spam signals.
- Consider capitalising each word (#LatteArt rather than #latteart). Screen readers pronounce it correctly and it is easier to read.
- Tags come back in the language of your input; add local-language tags by hand if your audience is bilingual.
What it does not know
- Live post counts or trend data. 'Popular' reflects the model's training, not today's numbers.
- Whether a tag is banned, shadow-restricted or claimed by an unrelated community.
- How many tags you should use; it always asks for 20 and leaves the trimming to you.
- Your text is handled by an open model on Groq's servers and is not stored by this site, and the request counts toward the 12-per-minute allowance shared with the other AI tools.
Frequently asked questions
Which platforms are supported?
You can generate hashtags tailored to Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), YouTube and LinkedIn — pick one before you generate.
How many hashtags should I use?
It depends on the platform. Instagram and TikTok handle many well, while X and LinkedIn do better with a few focused ones. Copy the set and trim to what suits your post.
Are these the best hashtags for reach?
They're relevant, popular suggestions to start from. Mixing broad and niche tags usually works best — review them and keep the ones that fit your content.
Is the hashtag generator free?
Yes, it's free with no account. To keep it fast for everyone, very frequent requests are briefly rate-limited.
Why did I get fewer than 20 hashtags?
Duplicates are merged, tags with hyphens or spaces are cut short, and the model sometimes returns fewer than asked. Generate again to top up.
Can it generate hashtags in other languages?
Yes. Write the topic in that language and the tags follow, including non-Latin scripts such as Arabic or Hindi.
Does it show how many posts use each hashtag?
No. There is no volume or competition data. Check counts inside the platform's own search if you need them.
Should I paste the whole caption or just a topic?
Paste the caption when you have one. More context produces more specific tags; up to 1,000 characters are read.
